In January, the MLBC will discuss The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga.
Born in the dark heart of India , Balram Halwai is a complicated man. Servant. Philosopher. Entrepreneur. Murderer. Over the course of seven nights, by the scattered light of a preposterous chandelier, Balram tells us the terrible and transfixing story of how he came to be a success in life -- having nothing but his own wits to help him along. Winner of the 2008 Man Booker Prize and sold in at least sixteen countries around the world, The White Tiger is Adiga's startling, provocative debut -- a story of coruscating wit, blistering suspense, and questionable morality, told by the most volatile, captivating, and utterly inimitable narrator that this millennium has yet seen.
Each month's selected title is available at Rock Point Books to participating members at a discount of 10% off of the regular price.
The MLBC meets on the second Wednesday of each month. This book club is open to the public and free to join at any time. For more information about the club or to express your interest in joining, please contact Abbie Tilley at MulticulturalLit@att.net.
